Could the postmark have been delayed or do you think the client is lying? For example - if you drop a letter in a box today and it says, picked up today by 5pm and you put it in before 5, it will have today's date on it. I have put things in the corporate mail room on a friday at like 11am, and then found that i actually missed friday's mail, and then it didn't go out until Monday. Depending on where your client put the mail - it's plausible.
