The second is that the accountant lacks experience. It may take longer, cost you a bit less and you get a good haircut. Or you could end up with a wonky fringe or bald. As technology slowly seeps into the accountancy industry, it is far easier for an accountant to set up shop in their own house.
For this reason, there has been a surge in one-man band accountancy firms. Due to the decrease in overheads they can often considerably undercut the larger office bound firms. So, instead of getting rubbish cheap, you can bag a highly qualified accountant at a bargain price. The second reason is that the accountancy firm has a business model that revolves around offering a cheaper service.
They can almost be like call centres, sometimes even with outsourced, overseas accounts departments. Not everyone wants to talk to their accountant. Oddly, some people find us dull. But communication is important. Not having your questions answered or your accounts explained properly. What I recommend doing is finding an accountant you think looks okay and then contacting them. Just ask them a question. It could be about tax, or their prices or for some basic advice, anything. If you like emails, then email them.
Phoning, then phone them. If you work on your accounts during the evening, then see if you can talk to someone on an evening, or a weekend, possibly through their social media accounts, whatever suits you. I have to disagree - AAT is a highly respected and well recognised qualification. If your long term goal is to progress within an accountancy practice, rather than self employment where ICB excels, and your employer would cover the cost more expensive than ICB path you maybe should consider it - its unlikely you would have to do AAT level 3 as you are MICB and probably would get exemption from at least 1 unit of the level 4 diploma in accounting.
If they want you to do the AAT bookkeeping qualification, in my honest opinion that would be pointless as would just be going over the same ground.
They obviously recognise quality when they see it!! Great news, a few more letters after your name plus you get access to their resources too. Date: Sat Sep 23 Hi Joanne, I know how your son felt as a chef, this is the first chance I've had to reply!
I too end up with around 5 hours sleep maximum most of the time, but luckily this seems to work for me although I do tend to have a slump around 3pm and usually need a 15 minute power nap, it doesn't always work out though.
Date: Thu Sep 28 They stitched us up like kippers didn't they! I've just passed IAB level 3 manual and ready to take level 3 computerised, so it is all very fresh for me. I am happy to help you if you need assistance getting through the exams before the December deadline. You've already paid to take those exams, so why not give it a try? If you want my help, let me know and I will post my email so we can chat.
Date: Fri Sep 29 Hi Lisa, I have found out today from HLC or avocado or what ever they call themselves this week that it's only the tutor marked stuff that has to be in before December, exams can be booked in if so wished, so I think I'm going to do that as December itself is a bit crazy for me in my day job. Date: Sat Sep 30 Hi Lisa I wouldn't put your email on here for all to see as you might end up with tons of spam. You can set your profile to accept Private messages. Once you have exchanged your first message you will have each other's email, but it's just then not shared with the world.
I think it's great that you are to support each other, always good to have a study buddy, but don't forget students can also get help on here. Always best when asking a question to mention what level question you are looking at because for most courses they strip back the info and if you don't mention it the answer can be furry advanced than you are covering.
Great for overall knowledge but can sometimes cause more confusion when your course is looking for the stripped back answer! We always say post the full question by way of an attachment as well and have a go.
Even if you are wildly wrong it will not matter, we don't bite except business owners looking for freebies, spammers and folk who don't say thanks. Good luck both of you. Thanks Joanne This is why I like this forum, the help and advice we can all just ask for is simply priceless, the level of knowledge sometimes astounds me too, I just hope someday, I can get near that level, I suppose like anything else experience and CPD is what its all about.
